Zombies, ninjas, knights and disco. That’s all I gotta say about one of Argentina’s world renown funk-a-licious acts of the late 90’s. After their break up in early 2001, Dante Spinetta y Emmanuel Horvilleur remained active in their own solo projects. Since the founding of their singular Menudo-satire sound, and their catapulting 1996 video, “Abarajame,” the music industry and the world hasn’t quiet been the same. With rumors from Rolling Stone, Argentina that the band might one day reunite, we’ve been patiently awaiting the eminent return of Illya Kuryaki and the Valderramas. Where spy-fi meets pop and Alice and Wonderland meets soul, similarly IKV mixes up influence and effect — Dante bringing that hip hop style and Emmanuel haling pop and rock. With a career so eclectic one wonders how this band could survive as anything but IKV. Watch out, Illya Kuryaki and the Vladerramas’ comeback battalion is waging war on your ears with science fiction viking vengeance.
