Under the slogan “sin crew no hay show,” over 30 Mexican musicians have launched a new crowdfunding campaign titled, Va Por El Crew. Big names like Julieta Venegas, Zoé’s Leon Larregui, Café Tacvba’s Meme, and many more are working together to raise funds to benefit up to 300 live music workers whose main source of income has been terribly impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.

According to data presented by the Va Por El Crew, around 61,000 workers from the live music ecosystem, including sound and lighting technicians, stage managers, roadies, and riggers, are currently unemployed as a result of the health measurements taken by the Mexican government to tackle the pandemic. And since massive live events will most likely be the one of the last sectors to reactivate, initiatives like this one represent a lifeline to the beneficiaries.

Understanding the financial struggle of crew members and their absolute importance for making concerts happen, the artists behind Va Por El Crew, in collaboration with Hispanics in Philantropy supported by Ambulante A.C., are calling people to donate to their campaign in exchange of a long list of rewards, from t-shirts, albums, clothes worn by Venegas, Ely Guerra, and Café Tacvba’s Joselo, to tickets to 2021 editions of festivals like Bahidorá, Trópico, and Akamba.

The Va Por El Crew campaign kicked off on August 4 and it closes on August 28 with an online concert available to donors and featuring all the bands and artists involved. Click here and support the workers responsible to make live shows special moments.
