With worldwide protests in reaction to the systemic oppression of Black people, and the recent manslaughter of George Floyd at the hands of Minneapolis police, many artists around the world are using their platforms to voice support for the #BlackLivesMatter movement and protesters on the ground who are making their voices heard.

And although there’s been a widespread silence on the part of the urbano community (Including complete silence from Bad Bunny—one of urbano’s biggest advocates for human rights), On Saturday, Karol G took to social media to deliver what essentially equates to an “All Lives Matter” message.

She promptly received backlash on social media, which presumably led to her again tweeting, this time using a picture of a black and white dog to try to explain racial harmony.

In the now-deleted post, Karol wrote, “The perfect example that Black and White together look beautiful #BlackLivesMatter.”

And though the post was undoubtedly well-intentioned, the use of a dog to deliver such a docile condemnation of racism had many rightfully fuming on social media.

After a few hours, she deleted the post and followed up with a bilingual apology:

Let’s hope as a result of these insensitive comments, she—and others who may not have yet spoken up—can take time to learn and listen to the Black community, and ultimately learn how to truly become allies moving forward.
