It’s about that time… every summer for the past few years, the Latin Alternative Music Conference (LAMC) and its accompanying trove of bands, music industry execs, fans, and groupies descend upon the city for a week of music, partying, panels, music, and more music (and more partying). Conference registration ain’t cheap at $299 a pop (giving you access to the official conference at the Roosevelt Hotel with panels and schmoozing galore, as well as free entry to all related showcases and shows), but the good news is that you can really skip the official thang and still take in quite a good amount of quality (well, not always quality, but we’ll let you be the judge of that) shows and partays in the days to come.
In addition to the official Latin American Music Conference fare, local bands, DJs, promoters, and venues have all whipped up some pretty quality showcases and shows of their own, and we’ve got the scoop on everything that’s going on in the alternative realm. Read on for all the details, and be sure to let us know if there’s something we’ve left out. OJO: unfortunately, some of the bands we were most looking forward to seeing aren’t coming after all; Miranda! and Lapdance have canceled their appearances this week. (Emmanuel Horvilleur had too, but now he’s coming!! Phew!!)
Now the real dilemma is figuring out how to do it all. A few words from the wise (well, slightly nuts): take your vitamins, drink your redbull, exercise moderation at open bar events, wear sunblock, stay hydrated, and take lots n lots of pictures. And sleep in on Sunday.
