Ahead of the debut Coachella performance, CA7RIEL & Paco Amoroso released their new PAPOTA EP, which includes the viral NPR Tiny Desk versions of their hits. The new EP also explores their thoughts post-virality, filled with humorous verses that distinguish them as artists.

PAPOTA starts with “IMPOSTOR,” which features a jazz soundscape. Lyrically, the duo is questioning their next moves after NPR’s success. They ponder over their artistic abilities, calling themselves imposters throughout the track. They humorously banter, calling out what the higher-ups want them to do: learn English, go to the gym, and start saving. Their already-released single “#TETAS” follows, poking fun at the need of catchy hashtags to continue growing their fan base online. Sonically, the track gives early 2000s, R&B and pop vibes as the duo sing about feeling the pressure of appealing to a larger audience.

“RE FORRO” continues in the same jazz vibe, this time realizing that they don’t need to change themselves for others. CA7RIEL even says if he was a “forro” (an asshole) before, now he’s a “re forro” (a super asshole), leaving it clear he’s not changing his ways. The new songs continue with “EL DÍA DEL AMIGO,” which is a celebration of friendship after their highs and lows. The duo incorporates a groovy bass on top of a lively beat on top of their signature comical witty remarks to one another.

The EP also includes their popular NPR versions for “DUMBAI,” “EL ÚNICO,” “MI DESEO/BAD B*TCH,” “BABY GANGSTA,” and “LA QUE PUEDE, PUEDE.” These reimagined songs garnered them new fans worldwide thanks to the duo implementing different vocal harmonizations, percussion, and brass arrangements to bring a new twist to their tracks.

Earlier this week (Mar. 4), the eccentric Argentinean duo released an equally amusing and bizarre short film called PAPOTA, which gave their audience a taste of their unreleased EP at the time. The satirical film follows the duo as they’re discovered by a record label giant and undergo what they think would lead them to become Latin Chaddy (or Grammy) winners. They become beefed-up artists, use AI and ChatGPT to make hits, and overall try to keep up with the industry’s demands after they go viral online.

However, their friendship dissolves due to the pressure, leading them to attend the Latin “Chaddys” separately. They end up missing each other and decide to preserve their friendship rather than become people they’re not. At the end of the video, the duo appears in an NPR Tiny Desk-like scene, singing “EL DÍA DEL AMIGO” from their newest EP.
