Brazilian outfit CSS abandons their edgier side and adopts a mixture of electro and dancehall reggae (complete with horns) for its newest song “Hangover,” from upcoming album Planta, due out June 11, 2013. Loyal CSS fans may be polarized by this one, but I’m sure the track will also garner them new fans. Upon first listen, it reminded me somewhat of No Doubt’s dancehall efforts on previous albums – a change of pace from the raw, punky vibe I’ve come to expect from the band. Lead singer Lovefoxx makes a hangover sound like a great thing to have, and her delivery makes dark lyrics like “I walked through the gates of hell” sound adorable. Only CSS could make a hangover sound this fun.
I’m looking forward to hearing what CSS does on their new album and whether this is an indication of the direction they are headed towards in terms of their sound.
