Valparaíso’s skittery one-man electronica house, El Sueño de la Casa Propia, is back with a new EP titled Doble Ola (out April 23rd via Michita Rex). To quote fellow Remezclero (and DJ extraordinaire) Juan Data, El Sueño de la Casa Propia’s “approach to sample-based intelligent electronica is…quite original, borrowing inspiration and sound bites from heterogeneous sources and deconstructing them into glitchy yet dreamy, hypnotic soundscapes.” Yes, to all of this. But also, José Manuel Cerda’s side-by-side samples seem incongruous on paper, but come alive when spliced together. “Caen rocas,” the first single off Doble Ola, is proof of this.
Going from one influence to another in 3.5 minutes is daunting enough, but what’s even more daunting is realizing which styles are feeding into one another. We start off with beat-heavy portions, then we’re attacked by alarming electronica à la Justice, zip over to a Bajofondo-style-crescendo, and somehow end up in spritely tropicalia, only to be interrupted once again by rattling machinery. It’s exhausting in the best way. It’s like focused ADD, frenetic yet well composed.
