Whether you consider it a one-man show or a big-band effort a la Les Mentettes Orchestra, Barcelona-via-Athens Evripidis and his Tragedies evokes a kind of bombastic intimacy that propels the music’s old-fashionedness into the present. At the heart of the sometimes-15-member band is leader and songwriter Evripidis Sabatis, who continues the tradition of ironic troubadour, crafting songs in English about love, fear, and Kleenex.
