Listen: Felicia Morales' Debut EP [CHL]

We’ve seen Felicia Morales backing and/or styling the meticulous coifs of Chile’s premier acts (Fakuta, Gepe, Javiera Mena, Caravana, etc.), but the accomplished cellist recently took some personal time to spotlight her strings via Quemasucabeza. Part tragic adventure, part forceful lamentation, Morales’ first solo effort, Felicia EP, plays like an elegy for a king felled in glorious battle. Or maybe that’s just me. Anyway, these four tracks are superbly introspective and crafted–Morales knows when to hold off on the sometimes overbearing strings. There’s a certain precision to the weepy, melancholic notes of these four tracks that gives me the sadness-creeps. Yes, the sadness-creeps are a thing.
