Kali Uchis is ending her music year with one last surprise for her fans. On Dec. 18, the Colombian pop star finally dropped “Muévelo,” a fan-favorite song that leaked online and went viral.
“for my final act of self love this year i will release this song bcoz prior to tonight it was a demo leaked against my will!!!🎊🎊🎊🎊🎊🎊🎊,” she posted online. “k disfruten y k la persona k se detuvo a leer esto Dios lo proteja siempre a ti y tu familia Amén 🫶 [may you enjoy it and to the person who stopped to read this may God always protect you and your family Amen].”
For loyal listeners, the Spanglish lyrics first premiered in ORQUÍDEAS, as part of the merengue song “Dame Beso // Muévete.” Co-written and co-produced by Kali, the new reggaeton pop and dembow-infused version is still a women’s empowerment anthem. With lyrics like “Y si un asqueroso viene y empieza a hablar / Dile: ‘La música está fuerte, no te puedo escuchar’ [And if some creep comes up and starts talking / Tell him, ‘The music’s loud, I can’t hear you],’” the chanteuse reassures her fans that they don’t owe men a thing—not even a conversation on the dance floor. Another standout is the song’s new catchy chorus, where she name-drops Colombian icon Shakira by singing, “Actualiza, ma, actualiza / Ese cuerpo, uy, qué delicia / Muévelo como que nadie está acá / Mueve esa cintura, mi Shakira.”
The demo of this “Muévelo” version was leaked and circulated a couple of months ago, becoming a fan favorite online. Now that it’s finally public, fans are praising the track and hope the pop star sings it during her upcoming performances in Latin America. A YouTube user, @blohilish, wrote in Spanish: “I LOVE YOUUU SING IT AT YOUR SHOWS IN LATIN AMERICA! 😭🙏.”
Kali will start her Latin American leg of The Sincerely, Tour in February. The upcoming tour will reach Brazil, Argentina, Chile, Peru, Colombia, and Mexico.
