You might have heard from the all-powerful Internet about this new Omar Rodríguez-López/John Frusciante/Teri Gender Bender project, but let’s sit down and listen to the tracks together. Kimono Kult finds the ex-Red Hot Chili Peppers guitarist consorting with The Mars Volta/At the Drive-In/Bosnian Rainbows/soloist Rodríguez-López and his Bosnian Rainbows main femme/Le Butcherettes lead Teri Gender Bender, as well as Nicole Turley (Frusciante’s wife), Dante White-Aliano, and Laena Geronimo. That’s a lot of back story for one band.
Hiding in the Light (March 4th, Neurotic Yell Records) is the band’s calling card, a four-track EP of Gender Bender-penned lyrics and all the warbly craziness you’ve come to expect from an Omar/Frusciante collaboration.
