We’ve been waiting for Maluca’s upcoming album ever since she dropped “El Tigeraso,” and the dozen remixes that followed, back in 2009. While we won’t be hearing this latest any time soon, the Dominican Princess will tease us with her EP Massive Pow Pow (to be released late this summer under Mad Decent).
The first single “Lola (Ging Danga),” is a bilingual club banger produced with the help of Party Squad. We’ll agree that “Lola” is more ghettotech than electro-Merengue thanks to its simple, pulsing bass and club siren effects. A Lola, depending on what part of the Spanish-speaking world you’re currently standing in, can mean anything from Nabokov’s Lolita to a prostitute. In this case, Maluca dedicates the track to all the working Lolas worldwide trying to “pay the bills” and “take care of their kids.”
