Maniquí Lazer, Mexicali’s noisy three-piece, hasn’t released new material since 2008’s The Amazing Kingdom of the Animals in the Zoo Chapter 1: Magical Medicine. Their return, the more-than-aptly titled Dead Celebration, is set for September 9th on Holy Dead Recordings and features two out-of-left-field collaborations with Hello Seahorse!’s Denise Gutiérrez (a.k.a. Lo Blondo).
“Unknown Crystals” is the advance, one that truly condenses the band’s experimental dance-punk m.o. If you haven’t heard the Maniquí Lazer gospel, “Unknown Crystal” is as good as any.
