Natanael Cano is immortalizing the late Ariel Camacho in a new way. The Mexican corrido tumbado creator released his live album Recordando a Ariel Camacho today (Mar. 28). The album was recorded alongside Camacho’s band, Los Plebes del Rancho, live last fall in Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico.

One of Cano’s main inspirations is Camacho, who tragically passed away in a car accident at the age of 22 in 2015. “I remember it was one of the only times I’ve cried over someone. It always makes me cry,” he said in a recent documentary. “He’s the only person I’ve ever cried for in my life, honestly. I admired him, and I still do today. I never got to meet him.”

Despite never meeting his idol, the Mexican crooner is keeping Camacho’s memory alive by covering his most well-known hits. In Recordando a Ariel Camacho, Cano features “El Karma” as the album’s focus single, where he echoes Camacho’s signature hard-hitting sierreño style. “El Karma” was Camacho’s first single to reach a Billboard chart, giving him his first No. 1 on Hot Latin Songs in 2015, per the artist’s press release.

More recognized tracks include “Te Metiste,” “Hablemos,” and “Toro Encartado.” Cano previously covered the latter song for Spotify Singles in 2023. Other throwback covers include “Bien Guerrero,” “Entre Pláticas y Dudas,” “Por No Perderte Te Perdi,” and “Porque Te Vas De Mi.” He also includes “Alto Mando,” originally by Alfredo Olivas.

Fans are thrilled about the covers. A social media user wrote in Spanish: “The only one who could give good memory to our great artist Ariel Camacho is another of the same level as Natanael Cano, que putazo es El Karma, either sung by Ariel or Nata.” Another social media user echoed the same sentiment: “Natanael Cano covering Ariel Camacho? 10/10.”

Up next, Cano will perform at the Axe Ceremonia in Mexico City, Mexico, on Apr. 5. He will also perform at the Baja Beach Fest 2025 in Rosarito Beach, Mexico, on Aug. 10.
