If shotty YouTube vids of Guadalajaran singer David Velasco fronting Porter weren’t enough, then today just got great. You can now stream “Palapa,” a five-minute-and-change trip into Porter’s new phase. His voice, as previously discussed, is gorgeous (and exciting) and channels a Juan Son-ness without appropriating. The track moves more toward trance-inducing conclusions than the straight alt-rock Porter m.o. “Palapa” is a statement, a statement that the band has a few more interesting lives left in it and I, for one, am more than intrigued.
