Japanese girl group XG released a remix of their hit single “Shooting Star” featuring Puerto Rican rapper Rico Nasty (Apr. 7). This release is a milestone for the group, who had not previously collaborated with other artists on their tracks.

“Shooting Star” is the group’s third single and quickly became a fan favorite when it was released earlier this year, racking up over 35 million views on YouTube for its original version. The hip-hop and R&B-fused track describes XG’s desire to make it big in the music industry and having what it takes to make their dreams come true.

Rico Nasty’s verse on the “Bars Remixx” of the song ups the ante with her distinct edge and signature flow. She confidently growls, “I wouldn’t trade this lifestyle, it’s looking so bright now / If you feeling like the baddest / Let me hear you say it loud.”

“XG getting Rico Nasty for their first feature on a remix is genius,” wrote one fan on Twitter. “I’m so entertained, like, she is obviously the best choice.”

“XG and Rico Nasty sounds so fucking good but we can’t forget XG and Ice Spice,” wrote another fan making reference to a viral fan-made mashup featuring the Dominican rapper.

“No, but XG/Rico Nasty just feels so right,” said another satisfied fan on social media.

With their catchy and upbeat singles, XG has been making waves in the global music scene lately. The group, who made its debut last year, is composed of members Jurin, Chisa, Harvey, Hinata, Juria, Maya and Cocona. XG made a significant breakthrough last month when their B-side “Left Right” became their first song to chart on Mediabase’s Top 40 Radio Airplay chart

The members are currently gearing up for their stateside debut, where they are set to perform at the Head in the Clouds Music Festival in New York this May. Meanwhile, Rico Nasty is about to embark on her “Outbreak Tour” and visit major cities nationwide next month.
