Listen to Grupo Frontera’s Take on This Ricky Martin Classic

Perhaps one of the most unlikely cover songs, Grupo Frontera is giving new life to a track made famous by Ricky Martin.

The band teamed up with the Latin pop phenomenon for a new version of “Tu Recuerdo,” one of the standouts in Martin’s discography. The song is one of the collaborations featured in ReVivo, a new six-song EP in which the Puerto Rican singer revisits key moments from their career alongside artists from different generations.

Grupo Frontera teased their contribution on social media, writing, “Tu recuerdo sigue aquí…” and sharing a video of the band vibing to the final mixes of the track. A snippet of the song blends seamlessly with the band’s cumbia norteña style.

“Tu Recuerdo” was originally unveiled at Martin’s MTV Unplugged concert and later immortalized on the album, where it became the lead single. The track arrived after Martin’s “Latin boom” moment—following three massively successful English-language albums—and marked a reconnection with Puerto Rico. Fellow Puerto Rican Tommy Torres wrote and produced it, and Spanish singer La Mari of the band Chambao also appeared on the track. The song later reached No. 1 on major Latin charts and became a concert staple, helping put Martin back at the forefront of the Latin market.

The cover is also significant for Grupo Frontera, who are now rubbing shoulders with some of the biggest names in contemporary Latin music—bringing música mexicana alongside one of the most iconic artists in history. ReVivo also features collaborations with artists including Carín León on “A Medio Vivir,” Kany García on “Asignatura Pendiente,” Los Ángeles Azules and TINI on “Vuelve,” Luan Santana on “Estranho,” and Christian Nodal on “Fuego de Noche, Nieve de Día.” In effect, these new versions of Martin’s classic songs transform them into styles like cumbia, bachata, and mariachi.
