This 2x Grammy nom Miami-jam band has been at it for over a decade. If you’re all fans of Bomba Estéreo, then there’s no reason to deny yourselves of the addicting jolts and jives from the Colombian diaspora via the Gulf. We’re talking about real urban culture and the originating timbres of the unclassifiable rhythms (e.g. champeta, mapalé, chande, etc.) — those Afro-Colombian sounds that resonate through the heart and soul of one of Latin America’s most sonically influential nations. Locos Por Juana offer up the same fusion of cultures. Like the hopping Mapalé dance giving name to the gyrating dance between men and woman of Angolan origins, or the cuchillo champeta (machetilla) used in the fields, the music of Locos Por Juana combines forms, history, resistance and celebration in one proud and soulful elation. Different than this previous remix, this one for “Afro Sound” is just proof that we all need to move down to Colombia right quick.
