Marc Anthony & La India’s Surprise Reunion: A Rumored Feud Finally Ends?

After nearly three decades, Marc Anthony and La India shared the stage again — and the real shockwaves of this reunion stem from their rumored feud. On Nov. 14, the two Puerto Rican salsa icons stunned fans by reuniting to sing their popular collaboration “Vivir Lo Nuestro,” an unexpected and historic moment during the 25th annual Latin Grammys in Miami, FL.
“Vivir Lo Nuestro” was released back in 1994. It made major waves in the salsa industry, not only because it became an iconic joint track, but also because of the reported rift behind the scenes. After the successful release, the two artists eventually stopped talking to each other. They would only speak about each other through media outlets who were curious to know what happened between the two singers.
Reports fueled the rumored feud in 2005 when La India reportedly said to Marc via a media outlet: “When you get off your high horse and feel like singing for the people, I’ll be right there with them, waiting for you. But you’ll have to pay me a hefty sum,” in regards to her collaborating with the salsa singer again.
In 2014, the rumor garnered attention yet again when Marc Anthony talked about La India in a concert in Colombia. Before singing the iconic duet, he told his audience in Bogotá: “I recorded this song with a kind of odd girl I’m not too fond of. The song’s one of my favorites—her, not so much.”
Three years later, when asked about Marc again, La India said: “It’s sad that today I can’t talk to Marc and make a new song together. Because ‘Vivir Lo Nuestro’ was a song that hit a lot of people’s hearts and, yet, there is no way to communicate with him.”
However, things took a turn last year. In a conversation with La India and Molusco TV, the host asked about the rumored beef. She said that circulating lies and rumors affected their relationship. She told the media outlet that they didn’t know the song was going to blow up the way it did, but that she admired and respected him. She also notes that she’s proud of what they did together.
When asked if she would ever sing the duet again with Marc Anthony. She responded that she loved the idea and that he sang beautifully. Fast forward to last night (Nov. 14), and we can officially say fans can finally say they witnessed the highly-anticipated reunion in real time.
Now, with yesterday’s surprise performance, social media users are excited to see what could come next. Are the salsa singers going to re-record the song? Are they going to collaborate again?
An Instagram user, jenny82, wrote under a post by Marc Anthony: “omgggggg love to see you and La India again what a surprise…. @marcanthony may it happen again.” Another Instagram user, j.maleficent_, commented: “Omgggggg, You and India how incredible I was saying omg if India came out…and when she came out I almost had a heart attack. I jumped, scream for got i had neighbors, I even cry. Wow!! Pls make a tour together… I’m begging.”
While we don’t know for sure, La India thanked her fans for the opportunity and the historic moment.
We’ll have to keep an eye out to see what’s next for the two iconic salsa singers.
