WATCH: Mariah Carey Declares Start To Holiday Season

November 1st means the Christmas season has officially begun. Not because Halloween has passed or because we’re skipping Thanksgiving, but because Mariah Carey has declared it so.

Carey posted a video to her social media at the stroke of midnight signaling the start of the holidays. In the video, Carey takes a huge candy cane baseball bat to a lineup of pumpkins with the words ‘It’s Not Time,’ carved into them. The candy cane is no match for the pumpkins as they are obliterated by the Grammy winner. The icing on this gingerbread house is that Carey’s immoral holiday hit “All I Want for Christmas Is You,” is playing while she says “It’s time!”

If there’s one thing that we should know by now, it’s that we don’t tell Mariah when it’s time for anything, let alone the holiday she reins over.  And she does rein over Christmas. She has since 1994 when the Christmas classic was released. Though, by Carey’s own admission,  it didn’t have the billboard chart power it does today.

Carey also told EW, “It was popular, but it didn’t have what it has now. I feel like people have grown up with the song and it’s become a part of people’s lives in terms of the way they celebrate the holidays. That makes me feel really proud as someone that loves Christmas so much.”

To further add to that point, hours after the video posted to social media, “All I Want for Christmas Is You,” has popped up again in the top 200 songs on iTunes. As we said, the holiday season has officially begun…cause Mariah Carey made it so.
