Meet Moxine: Brazilian Sensual Rock Ballads

Née: Monica Agena with drummer Caju and bassist David Oliveira
Raíces: Partly Japanese frontchica, but mainly it’s all São Paulo, Brazil
Sounds like: 311 and a much better pure indie rock version Avril Lavigne (if she was Latina and cool, and had flavor).
You should listen to Moxine because… Moxine is fronted by a strong and talented female singer/songwriter who’s proficient on several instruments.

The laid-back indie rock vibrations of São Paulo, Brazil’s Moxine make for sensual rock ballads that are similar to romantic indie bands like 311. Front woman, Monica Agena (along with drummer Caju and bassist David Oliveira) has experienced notable success in her native country since she assembled the band in 2009 and released her debut EP, Electric Kiss paving her way to prestigious festivals like SXSW and Liverpool Sound City. This jet setting band is set to release a new album this month called Hot December, which was written and produced by the multi-talented/multi-instrumentalist, Agena (watch the teaser). “The name of the album is a reference to the Brazilian summer, the birthplace of the band, and also reflects the energy and feeling of the songs,” says Monica.

We have the track list to Hot December way below which features her first tune sung in Portuguese. The first single from the album will be released on June 20th.
