Mexican Dubwiser, a.k.a. Marcelo Tijerina, has been an influential player in the LA tropical bass scene since way before that scene even existed. In fact, he was one of the first DJs I’ve ever seen playing cumbia remixes and mashups.
Last January he released the first volume of Mexican Dubwiser Presenta for free download, a collection of tracks either produced or remixed by him that included many cumbia mashups that have been in constant rotation in several DJ sets (including my own). So you can imagine I was quite excited to find out that volume two of this remarkable compilation was out last Saturday.
Among the 18 tracks that make up this album are a handful of cumbias by the likes of nü-cumbia pioneers Dick El Demasiado and Yerba Brava from Argentina and yet another remix of Bomba Estéreo’s “Fuego” (probably the most remixed Latin song of the last two years). But the surprises come from the various non-cumbia tracks, including MexDub remakes of cheesy ’80s pop hits and unexpected appearances of underground Cuban rappers. Get it all for gratis here!
