Chilean singer Mon Laferte – who honored Juanes last night at the Latin Grammy Award’s Person of the Year ceremony – arrived on the red carpet tonight, making a bold statement in support of the people of her home country.

Laferte was photographed with her dress open, exposing her bare chest, with the words “En Chile torturan violan y matan” (In Chile they torture rape and murder) – a bold reference to the ongoing sociopoilitical struggles that have faced the country, particularly in the past few weeks as we’ve seen civil unrest lead to mass protest and demonstrations across the country.
Laferte joins the bevy of Chilean artists who have used their platform to voice their discontent at the police and government’s handling of the protests. Though this display – on the Grammy’s red carpet – is sure to reverberate on a large scale. Here’s hoping her message of support reaches a wide audience.
