Free Download: Nairobi's "Minerals"

Choosing Kenya’s capital as a band name might be an unexpected move for a group of Argentine dub aficionados. But nothing really conforms with the usual in Nairobi’s fast-paced bio. Last year they released a debut album that was every reggae-dub lover’s wet dream, co-produced by Mad Professor and boasting guest appearances by the genre’s biggest legends Sly & Robbie and Lee “Scratch” Perry. Of course, that helped them start off on the right foot, getting them more international buzz than any of their compatriots.

Now it’s time for Wet, their second album, to prove they can handle things on their own without all the big-name dropping. Still, they have Mad Professor’s son, Joe Ariwa, as mixing engineer and a surprise guest that many South American rock fans will instantly recognize: Roberto Pettinato, sax player of the legendary proto-reggae-punk early ’80s band Sumo (probably one of the first Latin American artists to experiment with dub music).
