Natanael Cano is in legal trouble that would land him in jail. On Aug. 19, The Attorney General’s Office of the State of Sonora [La Fiscalía General de Justicia del Estado de Sonora] in Mexico obtained a judge order for the singer-songwriter’s indictment for alleged bribery.

The incident happened in Hermosillo, Sonora, on Mar. 29, when police officers stopped Cano after driving his car above the speed limit. The Mexican singer posted videos of him allegedly bribing police on his social media. According to reports, he continued driving at a high speed and was chased by cops in the area. Later, Cano posted a video apologizing to the city’s police.

Earlier this week (Aug. 19), Cano appeared at the hearing, where he was told that though he’s protected by an order that prevents him from being detained, he could still face a trial and must present himself in court and sign in every two months. He also can’t leave the country unless he gets permission from the judge, per Telemax.

Although he’s currently free to perform at his upcoming shows in Mexico – such as the highly-anticipated Tumbado Tour 2024 Disney+ livestream from Mexico City (Aug. 23) – the singer could face serious consequences like jail time if enough evidence is collected to prove bribery in the Mexican legal process known as “vinculación a proceso.”

The Corridos Tumbados artist has a string of shows scheduled in Mexico. Besides the Disney+ livestream in Mexico City, he’s also set to perform in other Mexican cities like Zapopan (Aug. 29 to 30), León (Nov. 8), Acapulco (Dec. 7), and Puebla (Dec. 13). He currently doesn’t have any scheduled performances outside of Mexico that could be affected.

Moreover, although Cano has trouble with authority, he’s still releasing music. Most recently, he released “Giza” with Oscar Maydon. This year’s recent releases include “PRIMO” with Tito Double P and “VINO TINTO” with Peso Pluma and Gabito Ballesteros.
