Peso Pluma is making history with his latest album Génesis. Today (July 5), the Mexican superstar broke the record for the best debut by a regional Mexican music album on the Billboard 200 chart.
When Peso Pluma released his Génesis album on June 22, he was already off to a record-breaking start. On Apple Music, his third album achieved the highest first-day streams for a música Mexicana album. Over on Spotify, Génesis became the all-time most streamed música Mexicana album in one day on a global level. The album included his previously released singles “Bye,” “Rosa Pastel” with Jasiel Núñez, and “77” featuring Puerto Rican rapper Eladio Carrión.
On the latest Billboard 200 chart out today, Peso Pluma debuted at No. 3 with Génesis. He broke the record set for the highest-charting regional Mexican music album, which previously belonged to Eslabon Armado and their LP Desvelado, debuting at No. 6 back in May. In its first week out, Génesis moved 73,000 units. Peso Pluma also claimed the record for the highest sales for an album in the Mexican genre.
This week, Peso Pluma also earned his first No. 1 on a Billboard chart. Génesis climbed to the top spot on both the Top Latin Albums and Regional Mexican Albums charts. After the album’s release, Peso Pluma placed seven songs on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. Among the biggest hits, “Luna” with Junior H debuted at No. 30, and “Lady Gaga” with Junior H and Gabito Ballesteros at No. 35.
Last Friday, Peso Pluma released a deluxe edition of Génesis. He added three songs to the album, including his past hits “Las Morras” with Colombian singer Blessd and “PRC” featuring Natanael Cano. Peso Pluma’s norteño collaboration “Tulum” with Grupo Frontera was added to the LP as well.
