One more day until South by Southwest’s music portion commences, which means three more days until Remezcla lands in Austin to bring you backstage and mosh pit access to the best Latin acts showcasing this year. But in anticipation, we decided to have some of the artists chat amongst themselves about the Texas fest and other pressing issues on their minds.
This round we have paisanos Polock and Telephunken, two bright acts in Spain’s music stratosphere, performing at the Sounds from Spain showcase on Thursday, March 17th, at Brush Square Park East Tent. So read on for some band-on-band bilingual action, as Polock and Telephunken interview each other before they jet off to SXSW.

Is this your first time at SXSW?
Yes.
What are you looking forward to?
Everybody talks about SXSW here like if it was some kind of music paradise, with so many great bands playing everywhere. We are really excited to take part in it. We want to learn as much as we can.
Who are you most excited to see perform?
We really haven’t checked out all of the bands, because it’s such a huge line-up. But I definetly want to see Sun Airway, The Strange Boys, Ariel Pink, and many more I suppose if we have the time!
What’s your favorite part of music making? The sex? The drugs? The rock ‘n’ roll?
Surely the rock ‘n’ roll, didn’t know that sex and drugs had anything to do in making music. When it’s about music making, we need an extreme calm situation.
What song do you automatically go to when you’re happy?
“Round and Round” by Ariel Pink’s Haunted Graffiti.
What song do you turn to when you’re sad?
“Walk in the Park” by Beach House.
If we collaborated on a song together, what would it be like/called?
It’s a bit soon to think of a song’s name. Naming songs is the complete last thing we like to do, it’s really hard to put a lifetime label on something. You never know what a song would be like until you start. It could be like anything really.
What was your first singing/music experience?
In school at 12, in front of all the kids singing Blur’s “On my own.” It was quite embarrassing at the time, now I think it’s actually quite funny.

Esta es la segunda vez que vamos.
Cuál es tu aspecto favorito del festival?
Después de 10 años tocando por todas partes puedo decir que SXSW es nuestro festival preferido. Me encanta estar rodeado de música en directo de todo tipo, todo el día y descubrir nuevas bandas que en otro festival no tocarían. El ambiente y la gente son increíbles.
Cuáles son tus esenciales para sobrevivir SXSW?
Ir cómodo y organizarte bien, utilizar la app de SXSW para iPhone me parece esencial para no perderte nada que te interese.
Qué artista quieres ver en SXSW?
Muchísimos, pero sobre todo quiero descubrir nuevos, me interesa más ver cosas que no conozco.
Cuál es tu parte favorita del mundo de la música? El sexo? Drogas? Rock ‘n’ roll?
Todo me encanta, menos los desplazamientos. Sería perfecto al 100% con teletransporte y no con viajes de 16 horas.
De qué canción dependes cuando estás feliz?
La música me hace feliz en general, no podría decir una canción concreta, quizás algo muy orquestal, estilo película de los 50s.
Y cuándo estás deprimido/a?
Soy muy positivo, casi nunca me deprimo…¿para qué?
Si colaboraríamos en una canción, cómo sería y cómo se llamaría?
Sería muy positiva, con muchos metales, súper bailable y con un estribillo muy pegadizo, se llamaría “Como si el mundo terminara mañana”…… ¿la hacemos?
Cuál/cómo fue tu primera experiencia musical?
Pues creo que nuestro anterior grupo en el que tocábamos también Sergio y yo, se llamaba Nothing, era muy pop de guitarras y sacamos dos discos, el primero en 1994…madre mía, qué viejo soy!
