As we’ve noted often before, música urbana has generally been grossly underrepresented on mainstream awards shows, despite rapidly gaining traction as one of the most important and listened-to genres on the planet. Last year, Puerto Rican organizers took matters into their own hands and launched the first-ever Premios Tu Música Urbano, which took place at San Juan’s “El Choli” and garnered a broadcast audience that rivaled many of the established awards shows.
This year, the awards will be back in San Juan on March 5th, and the just-announced performer line up includes: Nicky Jam, Wisin & Yandel, Natti Natasha, Sech, Jhay Cortez, Farruko and many more.
Additionally, Nicky Jam has also been announced as this year’s special achievement honoree, following his Los Cangris partner Daddy Yankee, who was last year’s first honoree.
