It’s officially one of our favorite times of the year: the time when festivals start announcing lineups. The most recently announced comes from the folks at Primavera Sound who released the festival’s full lineup last week, going from May 30th-Jun 3rd. Five days straight of rock, indie, hip-hip, metal and more in Catalonia’s capital of Barcelona (say it with me: anti-fascista, anti-madridista!). The lineup includes a few heavyweights — The Cure, and Death Cab For Cutie; old and new indie trendsetters — Jeff Mangum, Neon Indian; and even some heavy acts — Napalm Death, Mayhem. More importantly, there are lots of great Spanish-language artists to check out.

Here are a few we‘re keeping an eye on: Afrocubism is what happens when you mix Buena Vista Social Club and Fela Kuti. Barcelona’s electro-indie heroes Atleta will be there alongside Zaragosa native and psychedelic folkster Bigott. Experimental electro duo Fasenuova (think of a slow-motion version of Suicide) is also scheduled to perform as is Los Planetas frontman’s other project, Grupo De Expertos Solynieve.

Other Spanish bands to watch out for include weirdo singer-songwriter Joe Crepúsculo (a.k.a. Supercrepus), the David Rodríguez-led La Estrella De David, experimental/post-hardcore outfit Lisabö, Kompakt Records alum Matías Aguayo, Mujeres a.k.a. the band most American-language indie bands a run for their money, and math-rock quartet Unicornibot.
