In case you still haven’t heard the news, live music is making a spectacular return and we’ll be witnessing our favorite artists back on stage sooner than you think. Ruido Fest is the latest festival to drop their lineup, and you might want to get your vaccines in order and check flight schedules to Chicago for this August 20-22. After skipping its 2020 edition due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the three-day event is once again bringing a mix of old and new Latinx and Latin American artists and bands, with something for multiple generations of music fans to get excited about.
The Ruido Fest audience is getting at least one show by a legendary band each day: Argentina’s Los Fabulosos Cadillacs on Friday, Mexican ska giants Panteón Rococó on Saturday, and previously-announced headliners Café Tacvba on Sunday. Big bands like Venezuelan phenomenon Los Amigos Invisibles and Mexico’s synth-pop act Moenia are also on the bill.
But keep reading the Ruido Fest lineup, and you’ll find the real juice. Grammy Award-nominee Lido Pimienta is bringing her Miss Colombia to Chicago, and also New Jersey pop sensation Ambar Lucid, Chicago’s very own KAINA, LA darlings Inner Wave are joining the party. Colombian singer Nanpa Básico, Mexican rockers El Shirota, and San Francisco rapper La Doña, Hermosillo quartet Margaritas Podridas, lo-fi Miami trio Las Nubes, Caracas-born artist Maye are all also part of this year’s menu.
The Chicago scene is also well-represented on the Ruido Fest program, with the addition of singer/songwriter Rosalba Valdez, rock outfit Evil Empire, ska ensemble Tone Zone Skam, genre-hopping band Nahuales Underground, and Dominican-born metalheads La Armada. Stay tuned for the complete lineup, as well as the single-day lineups, single-day tickets, and the festival’s exact location.
