Junior H released his highly-anticipated album Contigente last Wednesday (Nov. 23). On the 12-track LP, the Mexican singer teamed up with artists from around the world like Paloma Mami, Snow Tha Product, Alemán, and Big Soto.

Since breaking out in 2020, Junior H has become one of the top stars on the Rancho Humilde record label. He collaborated with his labelmate Natanael Cano a few times throughout his career. Junior H is known for an emo edge that he brings to his corridos tumbados. And with Contigente, Junior H experiments with other genres and shows his versatility as an artist.

In an Instagram post, he revealed the meaning behind the LP’s title. “I called it ‘Contigente’ because two years passed while we built [the album] from scratch,” Junior H wrote. “100 percent organic and 100 percent feeling. Contingency means that anything may or may not happen. And while two years passed, I had a thousand doubts as to whether I really wanted to release this project. I doubted it simply because it’s something new and for fear of criticism, but at the end of day that’s what matters least to me. The music is more important to me.”

Junior H certainly stepped out of his corridos comfort zone with this album. In the alluring song “Veneno,” he teamed up with Chilean-American singer Paloma Mami. Backed by reggaeton beats, the two artists trade verses about getting caught up in a toxic romance. Junior H blends his alternative edge with trap music beats in “Te Alejaste” with Snow Tha Product. Alongside the Mexican-American rapper, he sings about the chaos he’s in following a breakup.

Another Mexican rapper the singerteamed up with is Alemán. On the atmospheric “Vete Ya,” they trade verses about moving on from a breakup. Another trap banger on the album is “Morena” with Venezuelan rapper Big Soto.

Junior H’s $ad Boyz 4 Life Tour relaunches in the U.S. next month.
