As if having to divide his time between playing with Grupo Fantasma, Brownout, The Echocentrics and Ocote Soul Sounds wasn’t enough of a challenge, Adrián Quesada somehow managed to fit into his super-tight schedule the production and recording of High Noon, the latest album by DC’s The Funk Ark. This guy truly is the busiest man in the music business.

The Funk Ark is basically a funk jam band that leans toward a raw old-school organic sound and aesthetic and they are definitely not afraid of stretching the boundaries of funk by mixing in plenty of Afro and soulful Latin beats. This already showed in their critically acclaimed 2011 debut, From The Rooftops, on ESL music, but it’s a lot more evident on this new album (to release April 3rd) thanks in big part to the production of Quesada.

The man behind the Grammy-awarded Grupo Fantasma definitely knows a thing of two about cumbia and that knowledge permeated into this specific track, the most obviously Latin-infused in the album, titled “El Rancho Motel.” Oh, and you can download it for free, exclusively from Remezcla, for a limited time only!
