Interpol’s highlighting Mexican-American talent on their two upcoming shows in Los Angeles, CA. On May 30, the U.S. rock band announced that their openers include the experimental artist Jean Dawson at the Greek Theatre on Oct. 29. They also announced that El Monte’s The Red Pears and the Palm Springs’ DannyLux will open their second date at the Greek Theatre on Oct. 30. Mareux is also opening for the band on the first date.
“First LA show of the year and it’s with @interpol,” The Red Pears posted online. “We are very grateful and excited for this opportunity.”
The Red Pears aren’t the only ones excited about the opportunity; fans are also thrilled about the Latine inclusion. An Instagram user, campoq, commented: “This is a win for latinos.” Another Twitter user said: “interpol, trp, AND dannylux????? 😭😭 that’s crazy i need to go.”
With lead vocalist Paul Banks’ time in Mexico in mind, Interpol tapping in Mexican-American artists as openers is not a total surprise. Though it’s unconfirmed, it may have been sparked by Banks, who is known to speak Spanish and has spent time living in Mexico City. He reportedly even finished high school in Mexico City and has previously said that his time spent there was “formative.” Regardless of the reason behind highlighting Latine talent, what appears to be true is that the band is giving back to our community that adores them.
Each of the opening Latine artists have a lot going on for them. DannyLux performed at Coachella for the first time ever in April. The Red Pears recently released a live double-track EP Away/Mountains (Live). Jean Dawson recently released “XCAPE”, PT. 1 JEAN DAWSON AS “PHOENIX,” the first part of his musical trilogy.
Tickets for the new shows are on sale this Friday (June 2) at 10 a.m. PST. There will also be a presale on Thursday (June 1). For more ticket information, visit the band’s official website.
