It’s no secret that Karol G and Mia Khalifa have formed a beautiful friendship. From starring in the “MAMIII” music video to singing and crying through her concert, Khalifa’s loyalty to La Bichota seems unwavering. But a recent Instagram comment made by Khalifa might have some people second-guessing.

Over the weekend, Karol G dropped the music video for “Cairo.” The visual, which the singer described as a “dream fulfilled,” was filmed in Egypt and features scenes in the streets of Cairo, the desert, and the pyramids. With over 11 million views on YouTube since its release, fans from all over the world have been weighing in on the clip, including Khalifa herself.

“Wow Karol G just single-handedly brought peace to the Middle East for the first time in 3,000 years,” wrote Khalifa in a comment under the Colombian singer’s Instagram post.

Although Khalifa, who is Lebanese-American, may have been joking with her comment, her tone feels different from her usual displays of adoration. Middle Eastern affairs and cultural sensitivity aren’t light subjects, and her comment definitely leaves room for interpretation. Tones can be hard to decipher when you’re reading them online, so we’ll give Khalifa the benefit of the doubt.

Despite the loaded comment, it seems as though there are no hard feelings after all. On Nov. 14, Khalifa shared a risqué photo of Karol G in a swimming pool with the caption “Mood,” adorned with heart emojis. At the time of publication, Khalifa hasn’t made any further comments in relation to Karol G nor “Cairo.”

Karol G recently wrapped up her 33-date $trip Love Tour in the U.S. Yesterday (Nov. 17,) she performed her new song “Cairo,” “Gatúbela,” and “Provenza” at the Latin Grammys in Las Vegas, NV.
