Tokischa and Rosalía have joined forces to release a new single this week, “Linda” (“Pretty”). In the song, the duo sings about why friends who kiss make for the best company. To no one’s surprise, it’s an absolute bop from start to finish that showcases the talent of both women while delivering something fresh and an equally noteworthy sound.

“[Rosalía] is a great inspiration to me,” Tokischa said in a statement. “[She] is a very disciplined, hard-working, and lovely person. She is like an angel. I am very grateful for this opportunity to learn and grow.”

Over the last three years, Tokischa has collaborated with several musicians, including Tivi Gunz, Químico Ultra Mega, Jamby el Favo, Jincho, and Rochy RD. Most recently, she hopped on “Perra” with J Balvin off his upcoming album. In a recent interview, Rosalía called Tokischa an “irreverent woman … who speaks frankly and isn’t afraid to make people uncomfortable.”

“Tokischa is a woman who is going to make a big impact just based on the message that she gives and what she represents,” Rosalía says. “She is a woman who causes discomfort, and it seems like women tend to do that when they are not sufficiently ‘proper.’ At the end of the day, women are always expected to act a certain way, but I believe it’s necessary that women be the way they want to.”

Tokischa is a controversial figure in DR, and recently landed in hot water with local authorities after posting four images of herself on Twitter in front of a mural of the Virgin of Altagracia in Jarabacoa, a town in La Vega Province wearing what was deemed a provocative ensemble. In a recent Remezcla Op-Ed, Maria Batlle wrote: “Tokischa is the unsettling red pill from The Matrix, taking us on an uncomfortable yet exciting trip down the rabbit hole and empowering an intoxicating sense of freedom.”

During an interview with Remezcla earlier this year, the “Que Viva” singer said that she doesn’t like when people try to restrain her creativity. “I’m a real person [and] I talk truth,” she said. “Truth has been a bad thing since Jesus. No commentary from an outsider is going to make me want to change my lyrics, my expression.”

“Linda,” the single and the music video, which includes a cameo by the legendary merengue accordionist Fefita la Grande, are available now on all digital streaming platforms.
