Video: Alex Anwandter's “Tormenta" (NSFW)

Alex Awandter just dropped his latest video for Rebeldes track “Tormenta” via Perez Hilton. No, that wasn’t a typo. Perez tends to track international artists who embrace queer aesthetics and Alex is definitely one of the current LGBTQ flag bearers in the Latin indie-verse. I don’t know if I agree with Perez’s assertion that Alex is the “South American Morrissey,” if only because I don’t think Latin artists need to be compared to Anglo artists in order to gain credibility. But this gives Alex some extra exposure outside of our own Latin landscape.

“Tormenta” is a beautifully shot, low-lit video presenting non-normative forms of sexuality. A lot of videos showcase women in the act with a “hey look, hot chicks making out, ain’t it cool, bro?” approach. That’s not what this is. This is an inclusive taxonomy of sexuality. A plea to forego the “slut shaming” we’ve been conditioned to abide by and a plea to embrace more radical concepts of sexual expression. Also, it’s beautiful people on top of other beautiful people. This just made Monday tolerable.

Check out Alex Anwandter’s refreshingly radical video for “Tormenta,” shot in Puerto Rico (represent!).
