Water, man. It’s an impressive thing. I can’t help but be charmed by music videos involving underwater antics and floating bodies. So color me easily charmed by Celofán’s “Sombras,” directed by Sergio Valdez.
This could’ve been an unremarkable video—four minutes of dreamy water shots does not a winner make—but “Sombras” is such a powerful song that it gives the video more weight than it probably merits. It’s a fuzzy, wrenching jam made heavy by its distorted guitars and mellow yowl. These Tijuaneros have made me a very happy lady, which isn’t easy because, ask anyone, I am an otherwise miserable human being.
