Two years ago I introduced you to Danay Suárez, a super talented Cuban femcee/songstress who had just released the groundbreaking video for her debut single, “Yo Aprendí.” A lot has happened since then. She’s been successfully touring Europe, singing with a jazz band, recording some dope collaborations, and independently releasing her second album, Viejo Sonido Turbio (only available in Cuba, so far).
I don’t know for sure, but this new video seems to be from that album, which I’m hoping she’ll make available to us outside the island in the near future. “Fly” is simply beautiful, with some undeniably hypnotic qualities, and the production is evidently superior to her previous work. But what I wasn’t expecting was this mind-blowing animated video.
Danay Suárez is currently visiting the US for the first time in her career and she’ll be performing next Sunday, May 26th in Miami, FL, and then on Wednesday, May 29th in Oakland, CA, where I’ll have the honor of being one of the opening acts.
