A couple years ago Bolivian/Spanish rapper Héctor Guerra scored a big hit with “What Up?” the track that introduced him to a larger Latin Alternative crowd beyond the hermetic confines of Madrid’s underground hip-hop scene. Now he’s trying to repeat the success with an equally catchy single, “Fantazy,” full of beach, summer, girls in bikinis, mota references, and buena onda.
Long gone are his purist hip-hopper aspirations while he fully embraces mestizaje in the form of ñu-cumbia loops, mixed with live banda sinaloense, auto-tune, and reggae vibes resulting in another border-crossing sing-along anthem.
“Fantazy” will be included in Héctor’s upcoming album, Desde El Infierno–the second installment in his Amor Desde El Infierno saga–scheduled to drop sometime in January 2015.
