El Remolón is not new to this game. In fact, he was one of the first Argentine ñu-cumbia artists I’ve ever heard of, before ZZK Records even existed and way before gringos in the Northern Hemisphere “discovered” cumbia’s dance potential. But unlike these other artists, El Remolón has never released an official video. He did cameos in videos by friends and former label-mates Fauna but until now, never had a video of his own.
“Flashback” is a trippy joint from El Remolón’s upcoming new album, Selva, to be released in early 2014. The video that comes with it is full of ayahuasca-infused psychedelia and hallucinations, while the character jumps between parallel realities and escapes his nagging wife to meet a shaman and a keytar-playing younger version of himself.
While we wait for Selva to drop, El Remolón is planning to release a digital collection through Generation Bass of ñu-cumbia remixes he did for many other renown global electropical artists including Perú’s Dengue Dengue Dengue, Brazil’s Maga Bo, Netherlands’ El Búho and Denmark’s Copia Doble Systema, amongst many others.
