All of Nueba Yol turned out for Calle 13‘s much awaited show at NYC’s Best Buy Theater last Saturday night, one of several stops in their Coors Light-sponsored Multiviral tour. A little more than halfway through a setlist of crowd pleasers that had the audience dancing non-stop, René took a break to say some words about Gustavo Cerati, the Soda Stereo frontman who passed away last week after four years in a coma. Recalling an encounter with Cerati in Belgrano, Argentina, Perez dedicated “La vuelta al mundo” to his memory, a track Calle 13 had originally planned to record with the Argentine legend. Perez’s glass in the air in tribute, he set off a “CE-RA-TI, CE-RA-TI” chant from the crowd as he reminded us to enjoy every moment in life. We’re sure Cerati heard with a smile, wherever he is.
