Wendy Sulca has apparently left her Andean musical roots behind for a laser background screen, a decidedly disinterested love pursuit, and ’90s-ish retro club stylings. The Peruvian YouTube mega-star, known for her huayno-ized “Like a Virgin” Madonna cover and her “Cerveza, Cerveza” video recorded in her signature high pitched voice far under the age of 10 years old, has now gone the club pop route in her latest video, “Explosión,” a cover of Miley Cyrus’ “Wrecking Ball.”
Is it weird that I feel impulsively protective of her in this new pop game? It’s a jungle out there without la Tigresa del Oriente and Delfin (hasta el fin) in your immediate corner.
