Who doesn’t remember the famous VMAs kiss shared between Madonna, Britney Spears, and Christina Aguilera in 2003? The iconic moment instantly became one of Y2K pop culture’s most jaw-dropping moments, though it could’ve actually been somewhat different. In a recent interview, Jennifer Lopez revealed that she was supposed to be part of the performance that left the entire world’s mouths agape.

When asked if the rumors of originally being part of Madonna’s kiss were true or not, JLo confirmed them being accurate. “Yes, that was actually true,” Jennifer Lopez said in a recent interview with E! News. “I was filming a movie in Canada. We had met–me, her, and Britney–to do it at [Madonna’s] home. And then I just couldn’t get off the film. So, we couldn’t do it. So I guess they got Christina Aguilera to do it.” Before the segment ended, JLo said she is and has always been a huge Madonna fan.

Can you imagine JLo being part of the Madonna kiss instead of Xtina? Many social media users are voicing their opinions across digital platforms. A Twitter user wrote: “im still mad that she didn’t 😭 i love xtina but jlo britney and madonna would be even more iconic.”

On the other hand, another social media user wrote: “honestly that was the perfect combo… It was madonna kissing britney and xtina! i mean… it wouldn’t be iconic as being with jlo instead of britney’s ‘rival’! so iconic and timeless.”

Regardless of the hypothetical outcome, what’s true is that the epic trio kiss was one for the books – and still talked about today. Last year, Bad Bunny even did his version of the kiss during the live MTV VMAs telecast when he kissed both a male and female backup dancer.
