After expanding his historic residency on his island, Bad Bunny performed a surprise show at the El Boricua Rio Piedras bar in San Juan, Puerto Rico. The global pop star not only sang new songs from his newest album DeBÍ TiRAR MáS FOToS, but also performed new salsa versions of his classics, like “Chambea.”
Bad Bunny has been surprising fans with new music and guest appearances since late November. Earlier this week (Jan. 13), he shocked subway commuters in New York City by singing undercover with late-night host Jimmy Fallon. The duo sang bits of Backstreet Boys’ “I Want It That Way” before they took off their disguises. Then, Benito sang “NUEVAYoL” in front of an excited street audience.
But that wasn’t all he had planned for this week. Last night (Jan. 15), the boricua icon unexpectedly performed at a bar known for its salsa and plena events. Bad Bunny first teased this in the afternoon by writing “miércoles de salsa” on X. Later, he posted an Instagram story with the location he was heading to. He revealed that he would livestream the performance via Instagram.
During the crowded performance, Benito sang his new album’s songs like “PiTORRO DE COCO” and “BAILE INoLVIDABLE.” He also sang “WELTiTA” for the first time with Chuwi. More highlights include salsa versions of his classic trap and reggaeton songs like “Chambea” and “Callaíta,” which he remade for the salsa-driven occasion. He switched out familiar soundscapes in both songs and performed them with a live band, which included percussions, acoustic strings, maracas, and brass instruments. Will he only play his salsa songs and versions at his upcoming summer residency?

Though we don’t know what’s coming next, his scheduled forthcoming concerts are the “NO ME QUIERO IR DE AQUÍ” shows at the Coliseo de Puerto Rico in San Juan. Tickets for those who signed up for the pre-sale are on sale tomorrow (Jan. 17) at 10 a.m. AST.
