After five months on the road, the Cultura Dura tour had its final date in the City of Angels. It was a stacked line up, featuring Kap G, Venus X, Nguzunguzu, Andres (Soulection), MLKMN, El Dusty, Fuete Billete, Alvaro Díaz, Chico Sonido and Royal Highness – artists who repped for Mexico, Puerto Rico, the Dominican Republic, Tejanos, West Coast chicanos, and plenty in between. The night brought a lit, scene-defying crowd together, who didn’t blink an eye when a Fito Olivares cumbia track got mashed up with Flosstradamus, who sang along to lyrics in Spanish and English and Spanglish, and who seamlessly transitioned from the Lil’ B cooking dance to hitting Selena twirls to dropping into twerk squats. It was the perfect way to close out a tour focused on highlighting the new wave of Latin sounds that can’t fit squarely into any box or genre.
