Elyanna is expressing her Latine side. The Palestinean-Chilean artist sang in Spanish for the first time at the Osheaga Festival in Montreal, Québec, Canada, on Aug. 4. The result? A mesmerizing rendition of English-born Spanish singer Jeanette’s “El Muchacho de Los Ojos Tristes.”

“el muchacho de los ojos tristes ❤️ first time singing in spanish on stage at @osheaga !!” the singer wrote on social media. “Muchas gracias habibiiiss🪽🤍.”

Elyanna’s cover of “El Muchacho de Los Ojos Tristes” echoes the original singer’s ethereal, echoey, and dreamy vocals. However, she makes it her own with an entrancing intro and her high-octave vocals, which she’s well known for. By doing this cover, she demonstrates more of her Latina side, which comes from her Chilean paternal grandmother. The cover was accompanied by pianist Leila Milki.

Fans are excited to hear the skyrocketing artist sing in Spanish. A social media user wrote: “Oh the Latina queen you are Elyanna 😭😭😭🇨🇱🇨🇱🇨🇱🇨🇱🇨🇱 THEY WILL NEVER MAKE ME HATE YOU.” Another social media user echoed the same sentiment in Spanish: “Elyanna singing “El Muchacho de los Ojos Tristes” in Spanish was the best thing I have ever heard.”

Latine artists like The Marías and Empress Of also praised the singer. The Marías commented on Elyanna’s post: “HERMOSA HERMOSA.” Empress Of left heart-eyed emojis on the same Instagram post.

Elyanna has been making headlines lately. In 2023, she became the first artist to sing a full performance in Arabic at Coachella. Up next, the popular singer is set to embark on her global WOLEDTO Tour after selling out her first U.S. tour at the beginning of 2024 and slaying her Lollapalooza 2024 set. Are Spanish-language songs part of her next tour’s setlist?

Moreover, she’s set to be featured on Coldplay’s next single, “We Pray,” alongside Argentinean singer Tini, Nigerian singer Burna Boy, and British rapper Little Simz. “We Pray” will be out on Aug. 23.
