Previously on Remezcla, Paola Capó-García fantasized about having the dancing-around-the-department-store scene in the movie Mannequin recut with this song. That would have taken care of the video for “La Joya,” but instead, we get something even more campy than what Paola suggested.

Featuring a ton of bright colors that suggest pop art, basic green-screen effects straight from a children’s adventure program, and Javiera disguised like a variety of women heroes, “La Joya” is kitschy delight. Tomb Raider’s Lara Croft, Carmen Sandiego, and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles’ April O’Neil are some of the personas she takes on the clip.

“La Joya” is visually restless, cutting to a ton of plastic artifacts, scenery, and products in fast succession. Perhaps what Javiera is trying to prove here is that the titular jewel can be any everyday object depending on how you look at them.

With the song echoing Eighties charming in a cheesy pop video, maybe we’re looking at Javiera’s crossover moment. We can’t tell for sure at the moment but one thing we can guarantee is that Mena is fine exploiting her nerdy side.
