With more than three decades in the music industry, Pepe Aguilar continues to make history with mariachi music. On July 15, the emblematic Mexican artist performed his newest single, “Mira Quién Lo Dice,” on Jimmy Kimmel Live! as part of its Summer of Mexicana series.
Not only did this historical moment mark Aguilar’s first time performing on a national television network, but it also marked the show’s first time having mariachi music on stage. By performing his mariachi and country-infused song “Mira Quién Lo Dice” on the show, the música mexicana pioneer continues to expand his musical trajectory to new audiences. “Mira Quién Lo Dice” is part of his newest album, Que Llueva Tequila, released on May 24.
The new live performance captures Aguilar crooning his newest album’s focus track in front of a packed outdoor audience. His live band incorporates elements of mariachi and country, with a saxophone solo that separates the song from his other hits. With lyrics like, “Antes de que digas que yo no te quise / Mírate al espejo pa’ que mires quién lo dice [Before you say that I didn’t love you / Look in the mirror to see who says so],” Aguilar calls out to a past lover to reevaluate their relationship’s downfall.
Fans are excited about the new performance. An X user wrote: “Pepe Aguilar had me in tears 😭 ❤️.” A YouTuber user, @XtinaCMV, commented: “This is soooooo chingon!!!!! Thank you for putting him on the show!”
