On Oct. 21, the global star Juanes teamed up with Los Ángeles Azules on their newest collaboration, “Por Un Perro.” The result? A charming and catchy song with a double meaning!
The new single was written by Juanes and GALE (Carolina Colón Jurbe). “Los Ángeles Azules is a wonderful Mexican cumbia group. A family, very beloved, very adored, and has spent many, many years in the music world, and they invited me to do a song with them,” he said in a written press statement. “So I wrote this song, ‘Por un perro.’ I did the music, the melody, and some of the lyrics, and then I invited Gale, who is a super talented Puerto Rican artist, to finish the lyrics with me.”
He said the song stemmed from coming home to see his wife with a new puppy. He thought it was “fantastic” until “Pluto [the puppy] came first and then the rest of the people in the house.”
He continued about the double-meaning of the track: “So it all began as a joke, really… but of course, it’s somewhere between a double entendre and a joke because at home we have three dogs, and we’re dogs until we die.”
The fun Navs-directed music video follows the singer and the Iztapalapa-originated band as they jam together and interact. Other frames show how Juanes finds evidence of what first appears to be another man in his IRL wife’s life – he sees two wine glasses, for example – but then realizes that she was actually spending time with a dog all this time. At the video’s end, the “La Camisa Negra” singer and the Mexican group share a toast together.
Fans are happy with this feel-good, playful collaboration. A Youtube user, Raknsab, wrote: “Nice and catchy song 👍. Very successful musical combination 🎶 with Juanes 🎤. I love his voice and style. Congratulations.”Another Youtube user, Deyvis Garcia, agreed: “I haven’t finished listening to it and I love it, I never thought I would hear them together!”
This collaboration is part of Los Ángeles Azules’ upcoming album, due in Dec. As for Juanes, this track comes right after being inducted into the Latin Songwriters Hall of Fame.
