¡Que La Bichota siga reinando! After an already storied year in her career (and we’re barely three months in!), Karol G has added to her amassing accolades, accepting the Rule Breaker Award at the Billboard Women in Music Awards. The 2022 Billboard Women in Music Awards ceremony took place in Inglewood, CA, on March 2nd. She joins the ranks of past honorees Kehlani, Demi Lovato, and Alessia Car with this honor.

Before accepting her award, Karol G treated the room to a stripped-back rendition of her hit song “El Barco.” Her performance was beautifully delicate and underemphasized, showcasing the singer and the all-female band in all of their natural talent.

When she returned to the stage to accept her award, she told the audience: “I’m happy, happy, super happy. I saw this a lot of times on TV, dreaming of one day being here… Thank you, Billboard, for giving me this and for giving me the opportunity to perform in front of all these amazing queens.”

The singer also imparted a positive life lesson to the audience, saying: “The world teaches us all the time to see bad things in each other and in ourselves, and what about if we just see the beautiful things in us? I try to do that every day.” She went on to give a special shoutout to Christina Aguilera, who comforted her backstage before her performance.

Karol G took a moment to thank “los Latinos, veo que hay un montón.” This made the already rapturous crowd cheer even louder, their pride in la Bichota representing Latin America at the ceremony even more evident.

This award marks yet another accolade into the storied career of Karol G, who recently released the record-breaking “MAMIII” with Becky G and won “Female Urban Artist of the Year” at Premio Lo Nuestro for the fourth year in a row.
